OUR HISTORY

Grace Bardin heads the designs for our female clients and with over 25 years in the business, she is more than capable of designing and creating anything for you. As one of Europe’s leading fashion designers, she is acknowledged for her timeless glamour, designing without any prejudice to age, size or shape.

Grace started her career in 1976 designing evening and bridal wear for celebrities in South Africa. In 1979, Grace opened her first ready-to-wear boutiques in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town, whilst exporting her collections to the American, Japanese and European markets.

She returned to her native Greece in 1984. Here she continued her work in Crete and Athens with her Haute Couture studios in Kolonaki and Paleo Faliro.

Because of her love of fashion and a developing international clientele, Grace decided to move to London in 1994 as she wanted to further her career in fashion and had always loved the creativity London had to offer.

Grace enjoyed working for several years with Karen Millen and Whistles developing their patterns and designs, where her skills were highly appreciated. She continued to develop her own bespoke collections alongside her job here and found that was where her true passion lay, designing one off stand-out pieces.

Grace Bardins strength lies in what she loves most, creating classical clothes that stand out. Ultra feminine and elegant, from great looking suits and coats for day, to the full length sensational gowns for night, her clothes represent sophistication and designs which never go out of fashion.

In 2001 Alexandra Wood’s career began on Sloane Street where she was catapulted from Assistant Tailoring Manager to Tailoring Manager within a day, leaving her to take on the tasks of designing for individual clients, liaising with dressmakers and sampling fabrics, along with the financial tasks. Alexandra designed a sassy but wearable collection for the showroom re-vamp, all of which was sold out within a week.

After a successful few years here Alexandra then worked for a visiting Men’s Bespoke Tailoring Company in the City, where she built up a high-profile client list and became well known for her friendly, efficient and knowledgeable service.

In 2007 she decided that it was about time Women enjoyed the same luxuries as Men, to be able to have bespoke suits made just for them. Offering a visiting service, that would make their lives less stressful. To offer suits; that are completely hand-made, rather than tweaked from pattern blocks. Also offering an extensive range of designs, rather than set ones to choose from.

At the end of 2007, Alexandra met Grace at a networking event and found that they shared the same passions in Bespoke and that their attention to detail and service went hand in hand. Immediately they decided that working together would be an excellent idea. Their individual personalities complement each other well and they now have a very successful tailoring company that covers everything bespoke.

Alexandra: “I’m a big fan of Chloe’s laid back, cool looks. But for all time glamour it has to be Armanio & Christian Dior.”
